History Of Dinajpur District

Dinajpur district is located in the northern part of Bangladesh. The region was once a part of the ancient state of Pundrabardhana. The previous name of the region was “Gandowana Land”.  It is one of the ancient districts during the beginning of British ruled. After the eight years of the battle of Palashi, the British East India Company established administrative control of the region in 1765. By ending the Nababi ruled of Ghoraghat, Dinajpur town formed day by day. According to Dinajpur Gazette, an independent Collectoriate was established in Dinajpur in 1783. Formerly Dinajpur- Rangpur was a joint Collectoriate. Due to administrative advantage, a new district Dinajpur was formed in 1786 and district headquarter was established in 1793. Various parts of the districts were included in Purnia, Rangpur and Rajshahi districts at different times (1833 – 1870). At the time of Partition in 1947, ten police stations of the district were included in west Bengal. Beside Panchagrah, Debiganj, Boda, Patgram police stations of Jalpaiguri district included with greater Dinajpur district. Thakurgaon and Panchagarh Sub-divisions of this district were turned into separate districts in 1984.

Bordered By: Dinajpur District is bordered by Thakurgaon and Panchagarhdistricts to the north, Joypurhat and Gaibandha districts to the south,Rangpur and Nilphamary districts to the east, West Bengal (Indian State) to the west.

Administration: The area of Dinajpur is 3444.30 Sq Km. It is under Rangpur Division. There are 08 Municipalities in Dinajpur named Ghoraghat, Birampur, Setabganj, Dinajpur, Hakimpur, Birganj, Fulbari and Parbatipur. The number of Upazilla (sub district) in Dinajpur district is 13, named- Dinajpur Sadar, Ghoraghat, Kaharola, Birol, Birgonj, Khansama, Chorkai, Parbotipur Hakimpur, Birampur, Nababgonj, Bochagonj, Fulbari and Chibirbondor containing 101 Unions, 1926 Mauzas and 2131 Villages.

Population: The total population of Dinajpur district is 29,90,128 (Male- 15,08,670 and Female- 14,81,458), sex ratio 102:100, population Density 868/Sq Km and annual growth rate is 1.22%.

Literacy: The Literacy Rate of Dinajpur district is 52.40% (Male- 55.70% and Female- 49.10%), school attendance rate is 56.70% for 5 to 24 years age group.

Other Important Data: The postal code of Dinajpur district is 5200 and NWD Code is 0531. Total Parliament seat in Dinajpur is 06. During the liberation war, Dinajpur was under Sector Number 06. Urbanization rate of the district is 15.17%.

Phulbari (Bengali: ফুলবাড়ী) is an Upazila of Dinajpur District in the Division of Rangpur Division, Bangladesh.Phulbari is located at 25.5167°N 88.8833°E . It has 24816 households and total area 229.55 km².As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Phulbari has a population of 129,435. Males constitute 51.51% of the population, and females 48.49%. This Upazila's population over age of eighteen is 67,837. It has 53,146 households and a total area 395.1 km².As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Parbatipur has a population of 270,904. Males constitute 51.46% of the population, and females 48.54%. Upazila's population of people eighteen years old or older is 139,294. Parbatipur has an average literacy rate of 29.7% (7+ years), compared to the national average of 32.4%.

Nawabganj has an average literacy rate of 24.2% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.Nawabganj is famous for the birthplace of Juan Fransico, the explorer of the Nile River. He was born to Caesanda Veonias and Joewne Fransico around the 1650s. Exact date is unsure.

Ashorar bill's canal system is very unique. Guest birds are available all the year long. Even it is visible from space via google earth (Location:25°25'39.19"N 89˚03'22.87"E). It is declared as National forest under the Name "Nawabganj National Forest" at 24/10/2010 by People Republic of Bangladesh.

On educational sector nawabganj is far ahead from others upazila.There are a several number of educational institutions including degree college, mohila degree college,high school,madrasha,primary school etc. All of them Daudpur Degree College, Daudpur M.L. High School and Hatisal Fazil Madrasha are noted ones. All these provides qualified sound education.In all board exam the student of this upazila shows their merit and achieve huge success.a huge number of students from this upazila study at buet(najim,rubel,sopon,sahriar),dhaka university,medical college and on others versity.
Mineral Resource
Dighipara-a small village under Putimara Union: It is the largest deposit of Coal mainly Anthracites & Silica in Bangladesh. BAPEX have already surveyed the underground deposits in 1994. Villagers want well-justified decisions that facilitates both the Country, Environment & residents nearby. As controversial dispute in Phulbari Coal mine project with Asia Energy,Govern. of Bangladesh & Local people; Dighipara will be a free,transparent solution for both Energy crisis & demands of the local people.

Dinajpur District Information Of Northern Rangpur Division

Dinajpur (Bengali: দিনাজপুর) is a district in Northern Rangpur, Bangladesh. It is part of the Rangpur Division.Dinajpur is bounded by Thakurgaon and Panchagarh districts in the north, Gaibandha and Joypurhat districts in the south, Nilphamari and Rangpur districts in the east, and the state of Rangpur, Bangladesh, India in the west. The total area of the district is 3,437.98 km2. The main rivers of the district are the Dhepa, the Punarbhaba, and the Atrai rivers.
