Hili Land Port
Hili land port is situated at Hakimpur Upazilla in Dinajpur district and is the 2nd largest land port in Bangladesh. In 2005, the government handed over the port for private management. On November, 2007 Panama Hili Port Link Limited took lease the port for 25 years.

In 1985-86, the Hili customs station was established for export-import business between Bangladesh and India.

In 1996, the government declared it as a full-fledged customs station. In 2005, the government handed over the port operation to private management. Panama Hili Port Link Limited took lease of the port on November 16, 2007 for 25 years.

Sources said due to harassment by the customs authorities and problems of CRF (Clean Report of Findings) and weighbridge and lack of infrastructural facilities, businessmen reduced their export-import activities through this port.

Two years ago, 200 to 300 goods laden trucks used to pass through this port.

Now it has come down to 20-25. As a result, the Hili port authorities could not achieve the revenue target in the last two consecutive years.

On September 2 last year, businessmen suspended export-import through the port for indefinite period bringing allegation against Panama Port Link director Ananta Kumar Chakraborty of corruption and mismanagement, toll collection from traders and workers, labour recruitment business and other irregularities.

Later, they withdrew the strike after three days on September 5 following assurance from the administration to resolve the problems.

Corruption and irregularities have remarkably reduced at the port and the businessmen are now getting interested to continue export-import through the port. As a result, the revenue earning has increased.

Hili port C&F Agent Association organising secretary Rabiul Islam said export-import activities through the port have increased and the port has been fee from political influence.
